Gone in 60 Seconds – ex-Nicolas Cage Cadillac CTS-V wagon sells at auction
Sadly, the supercharged Caddy was not a National Treasure, as the Oscar-winning actor’s V8 station wagon failed to set a record price.
Thinking of Leaving Las Vegas, but need something with a bit of space? Then this 2013 Cadillac CTS-V wagon, originally owned by Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage, could be right up your alley.
The black station wagon, one of just 514 built with a manual transmission, was sold recently on the US-based car-auction website Bring A Trailer for $US76,000 ($AU111,200).
The result, which only represents a $US5K improvement on the car’s 2013 new price of $US71,065 ($AU104,000), didn’t set a sales record despite its celebrity provenance.
According to classic car sales result aggregator, Classic.com, the top price paid for an example of the powerful wagon was $US121,000 ($AU177,000) for a modified example in 2022. The Cage car, with 30,000 miles on the odometer, only achieved the fourth-highest result in the past six months.
Released in 2008, the second-generation Cadillac CTS was available initially as a sedan and coupe, with a wagon (unveiled at the 2008 Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach) following in late 2009. Notably, the CTS sedan was the car linked to Cadillac’s stillborn Australian relaunch for 2009.
The performance-oriented ‘V’ models followed a year after the regular CTS variants but remained quite rare with only around 2000 CTS-V wagons reportedly built between 2011 and 2014.
Owning the CTS-V wagon will require you to manage The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, as the 415kW/747Nm 6.2-litre supercharged LSA V8 drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
At the time of launch, the CTS-V wagon was listed by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as the least fuel-efficient station wagon available in the US.
In a similar fashion to the Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) Clubsport R8 Tourer, itself fitted with the LSA supercharged V8, the performance of the CTS-V would, in the right hands, do it’s best to rip your Face/Off.
It’s not all about performance either, if you’re a Family Man and going to set out Raising Arizona, the CTS-V makes a solid household hauler with a 708-litre boot, powered tailgate and ISOFIX mounting points on the outside rear seats.
Finished in Black Diamond metallic paint with a matching Ebony leather and microsude interior, the CTS-V wagon was sold with documentation noting Cage as the original owner.
The auction saw a final flourish between six bidders, with the seller noting that at the time of purchase, Cage was making the animated feature, The Croods. You can view the listing here.
In the 2007 thriller Next, Cage played a casino entertainer named Frank Cadillac. Cadillac the brand is set to relaunch in Australia again later this year, trading the high-performance V8s for an all-electric luxury lineup.
