2025 Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R emerges as new mid-spec variant for Australia
The new-generation Mitsubishi Triton line-up will expand again in Australia with a new GLX-R variant slotting between the GLX+ and GLS.
The 2025 Mitsubishi Triton line-up will grow imminently in Australia for the second time since its launch in February with a dealer revealing a new variant for our market.
Following the addition of sub-one-tonne payload versions of the top-of-the-range Triton GLS and GSR to appeal to novated lease customers, Mitsubishi Australia will soon add a mid-spec GLX-R variant in a Model Year 2024.5 update for the ute, according to a post from the Lindenberg Mitsubishi dealership in Queensland.
Based on the four-wheel-drive Triton GLX+ dual-cab pick-up, the 2025 Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R adds GSR-style black 18-inch alloy wheels, a black sports bar, carpet flooring, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the Super Select II four-wheel-drive system with 4WD capability on sealed surfaces.
However the side steps found in the GLX+ have been removed, while the heavy-duty suspension and all-terrain tyres are replaced with standard-duty suspension and highway terrain tyres from the up-spec GLS and GSR.
It retains the Triton's updated 2.4-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine outputting 150kW and 470Nm, with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The GLX-R badge is familiar to the Triton in Australia, with the previous model available in this trim between 2020 and 2023 – while it was also used for high-spec versions of older Tritons available between 2006-2014.
While the Triton GLX-R has started arriving in Australia – with dealerships in Queensland and the Northern Territory confirming stock is available – a Mitsubishi Australia spokesperson said the brand is unable to comment on future product.
Pricing for the Triton GLX-R has not been confirmed. For context, the GLX+ it is based on retails for $53,290, while the one-spec-up GLS costs $59,090 for a $5800 gap between the existing variants where the GLX-R could slot in.
The Mitsubishi Triton line-up will expand further between January and March 2025 with the arrival of single and club-cab variants, while manual transmission versions have also been confirmed for Australia with timing still to be confirmed.
