The five cars Australian business owners can’t stop buying

If you need a work car, it's hard to go past these models, which have dominated the business sales charts over the last five years.

Last year, 429,634 new vehicles were purchased for business use, with some models proving more popular than others.

Unsurprisingly, four of Australia's top 10 best-selling vehicles made the list of most popular business cars.

In 2023, the Ford Ranger 4x4 was the most popular vehicle sold for business use, while the Toyota HiLux 4x4 and Isuzu D-Max 4x4 came in second and third place respectively.

In fact, for the last five years, the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux have occupied first and second place on the list of most popular business vehicles.

During the same period, the Mitsubishi Triton 4x4 and Toyota RAV4 also ranked in the top-three most popular vehicles for business buyers. The Triton finished third in 2019 and 2022, while the RAV4 placed third in 2020 and 2021.

Prior to 2019, the top three best-selling business cars were a little more diverse, with the Hyundai i30 claiming the third spot behind the Ranger and HiLux from 2016–2018. Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry placed third behind the two dual-cab utes in 2015, and the Holden Commodore actually came in second in 2014, pushing the Ford Ranger into third spot.

The number of new vehicles registered for business use between January and May 2024 increased by 16.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. As end-of-financial-year sales are well and truly underway, these vehicles will likely continue to dominate the sales charts.

While Toyota is not offering end-of-financial-year sales on its range, Ford's Bi-Turbo Ranger variants currently have a finance offer of a 3.99 per cent interest rate (5.47 per cent comparison rate), with a 10 per cent deposit over a 48-month term.

Isuzu customers can save up to $10,249 on the 2024 D-Max X-Terrain and up to $4561 on the 2024 D-Max 4x2 SC single cab-chassis 1.9-litre diesel manual. Isuzu also has an MY23 runout offer for the 1.9-litre and 3.0-litre diesel D-Max 4x4 SX crew cab auto.

Mitsubishi is offering up to a $2000 "loyalty bonus" for existing customers on selected Triton variants until June 30. Customers must contact their dealership for eligibility.
